Testimonial for Laurel Holleran (Aromaheaven)

In October 2010, Gateshead Council ran a Mental Health Awareness Week. As part of the week, we decided to offer free 10 minute complementary therapy taster sessions in Aromatherapy Massage, Reflexology, Indian Head Massage, Reiki and Shiatsu.

Laurel kindly provided the tasters in aromatherapy massage, reflexology and Indian head massage. The week was an outstanding success. Feedback indicated that everyone who had a ‘taster’ (apart from one person) stated that they would be prepared to pay for a half hour treatment if these were provided on a regular basis.

As a result we asked Laurel to provide ‘pay day pampers’ to employees of Gateshead Council on a monthly basis. The pay day pampers commenced in January 2009 initially as a three month pilot. The pilot was extremely successful, and Laurel now provides pay day pampers three days every month.

Laurel provides 30 minute treatments in aromatherapy massage, Indian head massage and reflexology at a discounted rate of £10 paid by the employee. We have developed an on line booking system which works really well.

The initiative runs at virtually zero cost but delivers significant benefits to the Council and its employees. Some employees have commented that they feel significant health benefits from having regular treatments and many have commented that they feel less ‘stressed’ and happy that ‘the employer is giving something back’.

I wholeheartedly recommend Laurel to you, and the benefits of setting up such an initiative.

Laurel is very professional, friendly, flexible, helpful and efficient and demonstrates a ‘can do’ attitude at all times. Since the pay day pampers commenced, Gateshead Council won the prestigious title of ‘Employer of the Year (Health and Wellbeing)’ for the Newcastle Chronicle and Journal North East Business Awards (Tyneside and Northumberland Region). The pay day pampers was a significant part of our submission and I’d like to think that this contributed to us winning the title.
